Ensuring equity in the marketplace for buyers and sellers.
The Louisiana Commission of Weights and Measures ensures that equity prevails in the marketplace for both buyers and sellers by inspecting all commercial weighing, measuring, metering and scanning devices. In addition, any commodity sold by weight, measure, or count is subject to inspection to ensure consumers are getting what they pay for. Created in 1950, La. R.S. 3:4601-3:4746, LAC 7:XXXV

One representative of retail trades involving sales by weight, measure, or count who shall be appointed by the commissioner from a list of three nominees submitted by the Louisiana Retail Association.
One representative of agricultural industries involving sales by weight, measure, or count.
One representative who shall be appointed by the commissioner from a list of three nominees submitted by the Louisiana Restaurant Association.
One representative of nonagricultural manufacturing, processing, packing, or distribution industries which are commercial weighing and measuring device users.
One representative of commercial weighing and measuring device sales and service industries.
Two representatives of consumers appointed from the state at large.
One representative who shall be appointed by the commissioner from a list of three nominees submitted by the Louisiana Ag Industries Association.
One representative who shall be appointed by the commissioner from a list of three nominees submitted by the Louisiana Livestock Markets Association.
One representative who shall be appointed by the commissioner from a list of three nominees submitted by the Louisiana Oil Marketers and Convenience Stores Association.
