Types of licenses
An individual must be licensed to control pests and fumigate structures. This at-a-glance comparison tells you what pest control licenses you might need to perform structural pest control work. More details are below. If you're running a pest control company, you also need a place of business permit.

Permits, licenses, and registration

If you want to operate a structural pest control business, you need a Place of Business Permit.
The annual fee is $150 for two (2) employees or less. $200 for three (3) or more employees.
Licensed pest control operators: $10 per phase
Technicians/salesperson: $25 per technician
Proof of required Insurance and Bond
Place of Business Permits expire June 30th and must be renewed annually.

License eligibility
You must meet the following qualifications before taking a licensing exam in structural pest control:
A degree from an accredited 4-year college or university with a major in entomology, or
A degree from an accredited 4-year college or university with at least 12 semester hours of coursework in entomology and at least 1 year of experience within the last 6 years as a registered technician under the supervision of a licensee in the licensing phase for which the applicant desires to take the examination, or
Four years of experience within the last 6 years as a registered technician under the supervision of a licensee in the licensee phase for which the applicant desires to take the examination, or
Four years of experience within the last 6 years as a technician under the supervision of a structural pest control operator in another state in the licensee phase for which the applicant desires to take the examination. Experience with an out-of-state structural pest control operator shall be substantiated by evidence acceptable to the commission.
For a Structural Fumigation License , you must have one of the above qualifications and have completed 30 jobs in structural fumigation working under the supervision of a licensee in structural fumigation.
For a Ship Fumigation License , you must have one of the above qualifications and have completed 200 jobs in ship fumigation working under the supervision of a licensee in ship fumigation.
To apply
If applying for a Termite Control License, complete a commission-approved comprehensive termite program .
The Structural Pest Control Commission reviews applications during its quarterly public meetings. (Applications must be submitted at least 30 days prior to the meeting).
You will be notified in writing of the Commission’s decision.
Prepare for the exam(s):
Once approved by the Structural Pest Control Commission, you can schedule the exam by emailing: spc@ldaf.state.la.us
Pay the exam fee and pass the exam: $50 per phase (submitted on the day of the exam)
To stay compliant
Every three (3) years, attend an approved recertification program. Complete by December 31 of the year preceding the third anniversary of either your original certification or most recent re-certification.

About the registration
Non-licensed workers engaged in pest control work need to be registered as S tructural Pest Control Technicians . This is a certification process rather than a license , so technicians can be non-licensed but must be supervised by someone who is licensed.
Requirements
Every Technician must be registered within 30 days of employment.
Technicians must pass the exam within 90 days of employment. If they fail, they can work for another 90 days, during which time they must retake the exam. If they fail to pass the exam within 180 days after employment, they will not be allowed to work as a registered technician until they pass it.

The Licensee or Permitted business must complete and submit the Technician registration certificate application .
Prepare for the exam
Obtain the Study guide . Study guides are available for purchase through Louisiana Pest Management Association (LPMA) .
If taking the Wood Destroying Insect Report (WDIR) exam, attend a WDIR training course offered by Louisiana Pest Management Association. See their calendar or call (225) 927-5722.
Take the exam and pay fees
Once the application and payment have been processed, the district office will contact the pest control business to schedule the exam.
Pass the exam at one of our district offices .
$25 technician examination fee.
$25 administration processing of registration fee.
To stay compliant
Annually, attend a recertification program (between January 1 and December 31). Each program must be a minimum of 4 hours, with at least one hour per category in which you are registered.
Terminations
Upon termination, the pest control company must send a termination notice to the department within 5 working days.
