Vandals Destroy Logging Equipment in Winn Parish
Reward offered for information
October 21, 2019
Baton Rouge, LA (October 21, 2019) – A Natchitoches Parish logging operation is shut down after vandals allegedly destroyed two pieces of equipment in Winn Parish.
On October 17, 2019, Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) enforcement agents along with the Winn Parish Sheriff’s Office were called to a logging site in Winn Parish off of L. Kieffer Rd. in St. Maurice.
Enforcement agents say vandals entered the logging operation and destroyed the radiator
in a 2011 748 John Deere Skidder and managed to bust a large hole in the engine block of a 2014 643 John Deere Cutter.
“The criminal actions of others have resulted in the shutdown of this logging operation.
This local logger is now looking at an estimated repair bill of $16,000. This does not include his lost down time,” said Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry Mike Strain, D.V.M.
LDAF enforcement agents along with the Winn Parish Sheriff’s Office are asking for the public’s help in bringing these vandals to justice.
The Louisiana Forestry Association is offering a reward up to $2,000 for any information that leads to an arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this criminal damage to property.
Anyone with information is urged to call the LDAF Emergency Hotline at 855-452-
5323 or the Winn Parish Sheriff’s Office at 318-628-4611.
