Strain to Meet with Presidential Ag Adviser
April 7, 2017
Baton Rouge, La. (April 7, 2017) – Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain, D.V.M., heads to Washington D.C. Monday to meet with Ray Starling who serves as President Donald Trump’s special assistant for agriculture, trade and food assistance.
Strain, who also serves as the president of the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA), will lead a delegation of federal agriculture officials to discuss issues such as the importance of international trade agreements for agriculture, proper implementation of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), and the need for a framework which provides farmers and ranchers a legal, reliable workforce.
“Ray Starling is a longtime advocate of agriculture and knows agriculture policy. I’m looking forward to this meeting and am eager to start working with the new administration on ag issues,” said Strain. “Anytime we can have a voice at the federal level, we seize that opportunity to fight for our ag producers. It will be a productive meeting.”
Strain will return to Louisiana Wednesday where he will join his staff at the state capitol for the legislative session that will be in progress.
