Strain Statement on House Approval of Farm Bill
July 11, 2013
Baton Rouge, La. (July 11, 2013) – Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain, D.V.M., issued the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives approved a stripped-down version of the Farm Bill:
“I am pleased to learn the House of Representatives approved the Farm Bill. Our farmers and ranchers must have stability in order to manage risk and continue to feed America and much of the world with a bountiful, safe and reasonably priced product. On a national level, I have long advocated separating the farm commodity title from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and debating them as the separate issues they are. Now that this has been done, it is time for the House and Senate to take this bill up in conference committee and send it to the president. Any delay or veto is unacceptable as it will cause economic harm to the largest industry in Louisiana and America.”
