Strain: Reward offered for information on LaSalle Parish logger equipment arson
April 20, 2017
Louisiana Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain, D.V.M., said a reward of up to $7,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual(s) responsible for vandalizing and burning a LaSalle Parish logger’s equipment recently.
LDAF enforcement agents are investigating an incident that occurred between April 14 and April 16, 2017. According to LDAF enforcement agents, individual(s) entered a logging site near Ernest Whatley Road in Belah, a community south of Jena, La., and set a 2013 CAT 545 C skidder on fire. The equipment is valued at $200,000 and is considered a total loss.
Louisiana Forestry Association (LFA) is offering a reward of up to $2,000. In addition, the owner of the equipment is offering another $5,000.
“This case is a senseless act of vandalism and we need the public’s help to identify those who are responsible,” Strain said. “If you witnessed suspicious activity or saw anything out of the ordinary between dates of April 14 and 16 on or near Earnest Whatley Road, please contact investigators.”
Anyone with information should call LDAF Enforcement at 225-925-4500 or the LFA at 318-443-2558.
