Strain Receives Civil Service Award

Today, Louisiana Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain, D.V.M., was the recipient of the highest civil service award for administrators and unclassified employees by the Louisiana Civil Service League.
The Monte M. Lemann Award, presented by the Louisiana Civil Service League, honors men and women who have supported the civil service system through exceptional leadership, but who are not civil service employees.
“It is an honor to be recognized by your peers, but it’s an even greater honor to be recognized by those you command and lead,” said Strain. “These employees want to do so much good. In public life, it’s the employees who implement the laws and the public will. They deserve peace of mind that that they will have money to pay their bills and that their careers won’t be in jeopardy by political figures who just want to gain votes. It recognizes the merit system and that people should be rewarded based on their abilities and their character,” added Strain.
The award is given annually. The Monte M. Lemann Award is granted as recognition of chosen leaders and citizens (not in the classified service) who have fought for the firm principles of the Merit System of Public Employment throughout Louisiana and to build a good image of this state’s civil servants.
