Strain named Legislator of the Year

July 14, 2008

The St. Tammany Chapter of the Alliance for Good Government named Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain, D.V.M. as its 2008 Legislator of the Year.
“I am humbled by this award,” Strain said. “It’s gratifying that the Alliance for Good Government took notice of the work I did during my years as a state representative.”
Strain, of Covington, worked as District 74 state representative from 1999-2007. District 74 serves parts of St. Tammany, Tangipahoa and Washington parishes.
In 2007 Strain was elected commissioner of the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry.
Charles Imbornone, board chairman for the Alliance for Good Government, said Strain best exemplified the ideals of good government.
“The group felt that Mike Strain did an outstanding job representing the interests of his constituents while practicing the highest standards of good government,” Imbornone said. “He’s professional, articulate and firmly believes in transparent government.”
The Alliance for Good Government, founded in 1967, has chapters in Jefferson, Orleans, St. Bernard and St. Tammany parishes.
Strain received the award at a sold-out banquet held at the Hilton Riverside in New Orleans on July 12.
