Strain: LDAF to Lower Flags at Half-Staff for Fallen Heroes

August 24, 2015

Baton Rouge, La. (August 24, 2015) – Today, Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) Commissioner Mike Strain, D.V.M., issued the following statement regarding the loss of three U.S. Forest Service firefighters and the Louisiana State Police trooper whose life was taken while responding to an emergency call.

“It is a sad day when we have to say goodbye to those brave people who lose their lives in the line of duty. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of these brave heroes.

“Trooper Steven Vincent was killed trying to assist a motorist who was involved in an accident.

“We also mourn the loss of three brave firefighters who were battling a wildfire near the town of Twisp, Washington last week. Three other firefighters sustained life threatening injuries. Here in Louisiana, our own wildfire firefighters dedicate their service to protecting people’s lives and property and can face the perils of fighting a wildfire on any given day.

The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry will lower all flags at half -staff in their honor.”
