Strain and Boustany Team to Urge Louisiana Delegation to Support Farm Bill
June 19, 2013
Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain, D.V.M, and Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., M.D., (R-South Louisiana) issued the following statement to urge the Louisiana delegation on Capitol Hill to support current farm bill legislation:
“The passage of the farm bill is absolutely critical for our Louisiana farmers and ranchers to sustain the agricultural economy which is one of the largest sectors of commerce in Louisiana," said Strain. "I urge our legislators to swiftly pass the bill and thank not only Congressman Boustany for leading the charge but also our entire Congressional delegation for their continued support of Louisiana agriculture and forestry."
Boustany stated, “The 2013 farm bill, H.R. 1947, is a vital piece of legislation for our farmers, ranchers, and rural communities throughout South Louisiana. No official understands the impact of this bill on our state’s economy more than Commissioner Strain. I am proud to stand with him today calling for the immediate passage of the underlying legislation. This is a good bill for our agriculture producers, and we urge the rest of the Louisiana delegation to oppose any amendments weakening or threatening the passage of the critical piece of legislation. A strong, unanimous, bipartisan vote from our delegation is necessary for such an important sector of Louisiana’s economy.”
