Baton Rouge, La. (July 22, 2019) – The Farmer Veteran Coalition (FVC) recently revamped its state collaborated Homegrown by Heroes labels with the inclusion of a female service member to complement the existing male figure. Currently, 12 states, including Louisiana, are participating in the program which brings awareness to consumers of agricultural products that are produced by U.S. military veterans. Veterans who are part of the program may label their products with the special logo.

“Women are an integral part of the family farm. Now, more and more women are taking over daily operations of the farm or going into agriculture on their own. It is only fitting that we highlight the fact that women are making their mark in both the military and the agricultural industry,” said Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry Mike Strain, D.V.M.

Currently, there are 18 veterans who are part of the Louisiana program. Of the 18 veterans, six are women.

“We updated the Homegrown by Heroes logo to recognize the notable contributions female farmer veterans have made both to this country and to agriculture,” weighed in Michael O’Gorman, Executive Director of FVC. “We are compelled to highlight this new image in all state-specific labels to ensure our inclusive branding is spread far and wide.  The positive feedback we have received on the new logo has been significant, and we are excited for the future impact this label will have on our budding farmers’ businesses and product sales.”

The Homegrown by Heroes label is the official farmer veteran branding program of America.  More than 1,600 veterans from all 50 states plus Puerto Rico are certified, and use this logo to adorn the packaging of their products in the market.
