National Weights and Measures Week
February 28, 2020
Baton Rouge, La. (February 28, 2020) – Weights and Measures Week is March 1-7, 2020, said Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) Commissioner Mike Strain, D.V.M. These dates are designated annually by the National Conference of Weights and Measures (NCWM). It commemorates President John Adams’s signing of the first United States weights and measures law on March 2nd, 1799.
“Our LDAF Weights and Measures Division inspects more than 100,000 devices annually to ensure that consumers are getting what they pay for in the marketplace,” Strain said. “It is critical that devices such as gas pumps, scales, taxicab meters, and pricing systems are accurate to protect both consumers as well as businesses.”
The NCWM is a professional nonprofit association of state and local weights and measures officials, federal agencies, manufacturers, retailers, and consumers. NCWM has developed national weights and measures standards since 1905.
