Cattle Discovered in Abandoned Trailer on I-12

June 20, 2016

The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) and the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office (TPSO) are asking for any information about a trailer load of cattle found along I-12 heading east near Hammond, La. around 6:30 Monday morning.

The gooseneck trailer contained 18 head of cattle and two flat tires. There were no tags on the trailer to identify the owner.

“We are looking for any information that may help us reunite these cattle with their owner. We are also working with the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office to determine who left these cattle on the side of the road and why,” said LDAF Commissioner Mike Strain, D.V.M.

Right now, the TPSO says this is an open investigation and not necessarily a criminal one. The cattle are being held at a local stockyard.

Anyone with information is asked to call the LDAF at (866) 927-2476, the TPSO at (985) 345-6150 or the Tangipahoa Parish Humane Society at (985) 351-0181.
