Avoyelles Parish logger arrested for timber theft

August 30, 2011

Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) Commissioner Mike Strain , D.V.M., said forestry enforcement officers arrested an Avoyelles Parish logger today on felony timber theft charges.
LDAF forestry enforcement agents Jason Watts and Jim Baldwin arrested logger Stewart G. Clark, 37, 1309 M. Cole Rd., Vick, for theft of timber.
Clark logged 29 loads of timber on land in Natchitoches Parish land near Natchez, La. between March and April 2011, Watts said.
Clark is alleged to have diverted six of the loads and pocketing the money collected without paying the landowner.
The value of the timber was approximately $6,650.
Timber theft in excess of $500 is a felony.
Clark was booked into Avoyelles Parish prison. No bail has been set at this time.
The LDAF extends wildfire detection, suppression and enforcement services for 18.9 million acres of state forest land. Of the 18.9 million acres, the LDAF receives wildfire detection and suppression funding from landowners for only 53 percent of the protected area.
