Louisiana Century Farm Program Seeking Applicants

Baton Rouge, LA (August 8, 2014) – The Louisiana Century Farm Program is preparing to recognize and honor Louisiana’s farmers, ranchers and forestry landowners who have owned family farm land for 100 years or more.
“This is an opportunity to have your family farm recognized for the many years it has contributed to the agricultural industry in the state of Louisiana,” said Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain, D.V.M.
To be eligible for the program, one must be able to answer yes to each of these questions: 
Has the farm been in your family continuously for at least 100 years?
Does the farm have at least 10 acres of the original founder’s land?
Is at least one owner a resident of Louisiana?
Does the farm produce at least $1,000 in farming income annually?
**Tree farms have different requirements.
Applications are currently being accepted through December 31, 2014.
“This is an opportunity to document your families’ agricultural legacy in the area in which you live,” added Strain.
