In the spring of 2000 the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry under the direction of the Formosan Termite Task Force launched an extensive tree treatment program in Greater New Orleans and Lake Charles to stop the invasion of the Formosan subterranean termite.
Between the years 2000 and 2007, the tree treatment program has treated more than 168,000 trees with the of goal of reducing termites in trees, reducing termite infestations to manageable levels and ensuring all citizens a home whereby they can live a full life, raise a family and retire, without fear of the Formosan subterranean termite destroying their investments.
To report a publicly-owned tree actively infested with Formosan subterranean termites, e-mail the Formosan Termite Initiative.
